The Chamber of Skilled Crafts issues exemptions in accordance with the EU/EEA Skilled Crafts Ordinance (EU/EEA HwV). A national of a member state of the European Union or of another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area must be granted an exemption permit for a trade listed in Annex A of the Crafts Code if a commercial establishment is to be maintained within the scope of the Crafts Code and the applicant has carried out the relevant activity in another member state of the EU as follows

• at least 6 years without interruption as a self-employed person or as a business manager or
• at least 3 consecutive years as a self-employed person or as a manager after having received at least 3 years of training in the profession concerned, or
• at least three consecutive years as a self-employed person and at least five years as an employed person, or
• at least five consecutive years in a managerial position, including at least three years in a position with technical duties and responsibility for at least one department of the company, after having completed at least three years of training in the profession in question.

The above requirements must be proven by a certificate of the type and duration of the activity issued by the competent authority of the home country or country of origin.

Companies from EU countries that do not have a permanent establishment in Germany must provide evidence of the legal requirements for registration as described above, but do not receive any exemptions. They are registered by the chambers of crafts and trades in order to prove that they are authorized to practice their craft in Germany. You will receive a corresponding certificate upon application.
